Dry Fasting Benefits
So those of us on the raw food diet are probably aware of and likely practice juice fasting and water fasting. But have you ever looked into the idea of dry fasting–meaning no water and no food for a period of time? Certainly, many different religious doctrines suggest and sometimes require water fasting as well as dry fasting as a method of bringing you closer to the deity, but there is evidence that this practice is also beneficial to your health on a physical level. I know people personally who perform a 24 or 36 hour dry fast every week and have excellent results. Some of them report not having any negative effects and often they use this practice as a method of “nipping in the bud” any health issue that is just beginning. For example, if they feel they are going to be catching a cold, they immediately go on a dry fast for 24 hours and the next day, the problem disappears. A lady I know who had an abscessed tooth and was very worried about having to get it extracted or have to have a root canal. She was able to cure it after a mere 36 hours of not eating or drinking anything. She came to the dentist for him to look at it and he was amazed. There are some good books on the subject. Quantum Eating by Tonya Zavasta, a raw food diet promoter (at www.beautifulonraw.com) has lots of good information on the subject. Also, the books called Dry Fasting by Oleg Vinogradov and Control for Life Extension by Valery Mamonov have detailed discussions of this practice.
